A Kentucky toddler has passed away Thursday after ingesting fentanyl and his mother is now facing murder charges.
33-year-old Lauren Ashley Baker bought the drugs in Cincinnati on Saturday using her stimulus money and took a shot on that fateful day.
She told detectives that she fell asleep when her toddler found her purse and dumped its contents on the bed. Fentanyl was scattered near the boy along with empty Narcan packages.
The 2-year-old ingested the drug that was in the purse and stopped breathing. His father contacted 911 when he arrived home.
Authorities said that for a small child, touching fentanyl alone can kill them instantly. Baker’s son was pronounced dead at the hospital.
She was charged with murder, importing fentanyl, and trafficking in a controlled substance. She is currently being held without bond.
