Nearly three weeks after she went missing, a Shelby mother-of-four was found dead, inside a car trunk and her ex-boyfriend was charged with her murder.
33-year-old Melinda Kay Davis disappeared on Feb. 25 while on her way to John Mack Jr.’s house to pick up some belongings.
But before vanishing, Davis called a friend and said: “If you don’t hear from me, call the police.”
The friend told local news outlets: “She said, ‘I’m almost to Johnny’s house. If you don’t hear from me in a few hours, something may have gone wrong.’ I said, ‘Oh my gosh, you’ve got me freaked out.’”
43-year-old Mack was arrested on March 1 and charged with kidnapping after detectives found blood in his home. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mack’s adult son and daughter-in-law were also arrested and charged with obstructing justice.
Last Sunday, authorities located Davis’ remains in her car that was abandoned near Mack’s workplace.
