Heartbreaking: Surveillance camera caught woman leading toddler through Bronx streets before abandoning her there

A toddler was abandoned on the corner of a Bronx street and found shortly before midnight Saturday.

The girl who is not over 4 years of age was standing alone on a rainy night at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and East 156 Street.

Police released surveillance footage of the events leading up to the incident showing a woman covering her face with a scarf walking ahead as the toddler follows.

  • The woman, who appeared to be in her mid-20s and standing 5-foot-2 tall, would turn back to glimpse at the child trailing behind her.

    The NYPD said that the child was evaluated at a local hospital and placed under the care of child services as the investigation continues.

    They are urging anyone who could identify the girl or the woman on the video to call Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The call is confidential.
