Ohio cop hailed hero after jumping into icy pond to rescue siblings

An Ohio officer is hailed a hero after he passed away while trying to rescue a teenage girl that ultimately drowned saving her younger brother.

The tragedy occurred Tuesday evening at Rocky Point Lake when a witness called 911 claiming a 13-year-old boy was seeking help for his sister who drowned in an icy pond.

  • 36-year-old Jason Lagore was among the responders who searched for the 16-year-old girl after she disappeared under the ice. She had managed to help her younger brother out of the pond.

    Reports said that at some point during the rescue operation, Lagore suffered a heart attack after jumping into the freezing waters. The 15-year veteran was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

    Authorities said that the girl’s body was recovered four-and-a-half hours later. Her cause of death was ruled as drowning.
