Initial filings by Trump lawyers filled with typos; spark humor on social media

3years ago

Washington news, US news.

On Tuesday, former President Trump’s defense team filed their initial response to the House ahead of his imminent impeachment trial but did not pay much attention when they put pen to paper.

Clear-sighted readers took to social media to mock lawyers David Schoen and Bruce Castor’s blatant misspelling mistakes starting from the very first lines of the fillings.

Intended to address members of the United States Senate, the documents instead read “to the Honorable, the Members of the Unites States Senate.”

The legal team then went on to repeat unfounded claims of a “stolen” 2020 election and persist that the former President believes “the election results were suspect.”

The attorneys added that according to the constitution, Trump should actually hold office “to be impeached” and that questioning the election outcome was exercising his First Amendment right.

“The ‘Unites States Senate’ – the world’s greatest deliberative body,” CNN’s Jim Sciutto tweeted.

“Trump’s lawyers misspell ‘United States’ right at the beginning and somehow it only gets worse and more amateurish from there,” Virginia Rep. Don Beyer replied.

Journalist and lawyer Judd Legum added: “Trump’s formal answer to his impeachment starts off by misspelling ‘The United States.’ It goes downhill from there.”

Philip Bump, of the Washington Post, commented: “If you’re curious about the actual substance of the document, it’s of the same quality.”
