A Detroit man who was supposed to look after a 5-year-old boy nearly caused his death when his dogs attacked the boy early Friday morning.
Now the babysitter and child are in hospital with the latter in serious condition following the grisly attack in the 9000 block of Longacre Street, Detroit.
The man was reportedly feeding his group of five dogs when the animals left the food and targeted the toddler.
The owner tried as he could to save the child and sustained injuries in the process. He was not charged in connection with the incident.
Animal Control officials detained the dogs in order to test them for rabies. A neighbor described seeing the same pack attacking another child, months ago.
“It was like; this dog is going to eat this little boy up. I thought he was going to kill the boy because they could not control the dog. I don’t know if it was the same kid or a different kid.”
“It didn’t look like they had control over dogs so I was going to get out of the car and shoot this dog because it was all over the boy.”
The same witness said that following the latest incident, he regrets not having intervened that day.
“I guess I’m going to have to do something,” he said.
