Watertown authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was discovered dying in the middle of Veterans Memorial Riverwalk road early Friday.
It was around 3 a.m. when someone called 911 to report the woman near the Black River. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 19-year-old agonizing on the 100 Block of Newell Street.
The victim was later identified as Rayne Stokes. Efforts to save her life failed as she passed away at Samaritan Medical Center less than three hours afterward.
Her cause of death remains unclear pending autopsy results but detectives believe foul play was involved in this case.
Watertown Police, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
