A Queens fisherman has called 911 after reeling in a decomposed human body on Tuesday afternoon, the NYPD announced.
Edmond Stringa, 69, told authorities that he first spotted something suspicious on Monday when he went to the Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn to fish.
Stringa said that he was using a small hook that got caught on something larger and couldn’t be recovered. He then left the scene.
The fisherman returned the following day and brought a bigger hook and better line only to come upon the same large mass.
“It was really heavy. When I pulled it out a little bit, I saw the shoes, the pants. I thought it was something suspicious. I knew it wasn’t a fish.”
Police rushed to the pier and recovered the body. They said that it was decomposed beyond recognition.
An investigation has been launched to identify the body and determine a cause of death.
