Couple dead, truck driver at large after New Year’s Day tragic crash in Queens

A New York City couple only lived five hours on New Year’s Day before finding their fate on a Queens road, police said.

The victims, a 60-year-old woman, and a 57-year-old man were riding a Nissan SUV at around 5 a.m. Friday when they crossed paths with a Dodge Ram pickup truck that crashed into them and pinned them inside the wreck.

  • The driver of the pickup truck managed to get out of his Dodge and ran away from the crash scene at the intersection of Rockaway Freeway and Ocean Crest Boulevard.

    But cops were able to arrest his two male passengers, ages 37 and 33, with the younger man arguing with officers.

    The 37-year-old was treated for head and leg injuries at Jamaica Hospital while the couple was transported to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital where they died.
