Witnesses called 911 at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday after seeing flames emanating from a backyard in Shirley, New York.
Suffolk County Police officers were shocked upon arrival to find out that the fire was a human body being burned as the suspected perpetrator stood watching.
20-year-old Peter Pendzinski, who lives at the residence, also had minor burns on his body. He was treated and arrested on second-degree murder charges.
Local media reported a huge presence of law enforcement and Crime Laboratory units at the scene located in Mastic Boulevard West, near Windsor Place.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim is a man but his relationship with the suspect remains unclear.
An autopsy is being performed to identify the decedent and determine his cause of death. Pendzinski is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip this week.
