The House will be holding a voting session on Monday to approve the $2,000 Covid stimulus checks suggested by President Trump after an obstruction from Republicans ruined Nancy Pelosi and fellow Democrats’ attempts for a unanimous Christmas Eve vote.
“Today, on Christmas Eve morning, House Republicans cruelly deprived the American people of the $2,000 that the President agreed to support,” House Speaker Pelosi said in a statement.
“If the President is serious about the $2,000 direct payments, he must call on House Republicans to end their obstruction.”
The 50 percent attendance required to approve and pass bills was not possible on Thursday as most House members were home for Christmas.
Republicans accused Pelosi of not considering Trump’s other proposal to block the $2.3 trillion spending bill intended for foreign aid.
They also cited the alarming growth of national debt caused by the pandemic that makes them reluctant to approve more funds.
If the $2,000 checks are approved on Monday, they will have to get the Republican-held Senate’s green light to pass.
