Following his Tuesday call for higher stimulus payments to struggling Americans, President Trump’s traditional critics showed their support for the idea.
Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Bernie Sanders expressed their approval for Trump’s plea to raise the $600 stimulus checks to $2,000 ones.
“It’s called the Covid relief bill it has almost nothing to do with Covid,” Trump said about the Congress $900 billion plan.
He explained that part of the money was meant for allocations to other countries, $40 million was going to the Kennedy Center in Washington and several other millions were intended to research efforts and other unrelated aims.
“The bill also allows stimulus checks for the family members of illegal aliens, allowing them to get up $1,800 each, this is far more than the Americans are given,” he added.
“Despite all of this wasteful spending, and much more, the $900 billion package provides hard-working taxpayers with only $600 each in relief payments, and not enough money is given to small businesses – and in particular restaurants, whose owners have suffered so grievously.”
In a rare positive response, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi retweeted the President’s video and added: “Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!”
Sen. Bernie Sanders retweeted Pelosi’s post and asked Trump to “get Mitch McConnell and your Republican friends to stop opposing it and we can provide working-class Americans with $2,000. Let’s do it.”
