Despite Senator Rand Paul’s angry speech over the $900 billion Covid-19 relief package that was on the voting process, fellow Republicans still backed the stimulus plan Monday afternoon allowing its activation.
“To so-called conservatives who are quick to identify the socialism of Democrats: If you vote for this spending monstrosity, you are no better,” Sen. Paul lashed out.
“If free money was the answer…if money really did grow on trees, why not give more free money? Why not give it out all the time? Why stop at $600 a person? Why not $1,000? Why not $2,000? Maybe these new free-Money Republicans should join the Everybody-Gets-A-Guaranteed-Income Caucus? Why not $20,000 a year for everybody, why not $30,000? If we can print out money with impunity, why not do it?”
The Covid-19 relief bill and funding plan were passed after the Senate voted 91-6. Rand was among the six opposing the package including Texas Senator Ted Cruz who called the step “absurd.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell complimented the bill that is expected to be signed by President Trump later this week.
“Yesterday, leaders in the Senate, in the House, and the Secretary of the Treasury reached the major agreement that struggling Americans have needed for months. We are going to pass another historic rescue package to help American families through this pandemic.”
The new Covid-19 package will send $600 in stimulus payments to Americans while severely impacted businesses would receive additional subsidies.
