Due to the Christmas holidays, congress won’t discuss or pass Covid stimulus money causing at least 12 million Americans to lose unemployment benefits.
The House won’t resume the discussion before Monday, Dec. 28 as Democrats work to approve President Trump’s proposal to increase the $600 checks to $2,000.
On Wednesday, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy blocked the new bill’s consideration by refusing to give consent.
He accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of “selective hearing” of the President’s remarks and asked for reconsideration of billions of dollars intended for foreign aid.
Trump suggested on Tuesday that Covid relief checks should be raised and wasteful spending removed from the $2.3 trillion stimulus and government funding bill.
The bill that passed both Congress chambers by large margins also includes $300 in weekly unemployment supplement and $284 billion in forgivable loans to small and struggling businesses.
