The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) issued a precautionary warning that urges people in the UK with allergic reactions to medicines and foods not to get Covid-vaccinated.
The warning came after two unidentified people working in health care had to be treated for an “anaphylactoid reaction” shortly after getting Pfizer’s new vaccine.
“Two people with a history of significant allergic reactions responded adversely yesterday,” Prof. Stephen Powis from the NHS.
“The MHRA has advised on a precautionary basis that people with a significant history of allergic reactions do not receive this vaccination,” he said adding that it is consistent with all new coronavirus vaccines.
Dr. June Raine, the head of the regulatory agency, also noted the allergic responses.
“We know from the very extensive clinical trials that this wasn’t a feature,” she said.
“But if we need to strengthen our advice, now that we have had this experience with the vulnerable populations, the groups who have been selected as a priority, we get that advice to the field immediately.”
