A Washington mother took her life after killing her twin daughters a few days after a judge granted both her and the father custody, local reports said.
Whatcom County Police said that Michele Boudreau Deegan made suicidal threats and said she won’t leave her 7-year-old daughters alone just after the court ruled the parents should share custody on Oct. 20.
The 55-year-old is believed to have fatally shot Mairy Anneleise Deegan, and Katie Elizabeth Deegan after giving them a “substantial amount of sedatives” that probably “rendered them incoherent at the time of the incident,” autopsy found.
The three dead bodies were discovered in a bedroom last Saturday when a man renting a room at the house called 911 to report the tragedy.
Deegan was reportedly a therapist and owned an active mental health counselor’s license.
“Evidence at the scene clearly implicates Michele Boudreau Deegan as the only suspect in the death of her two daughters,” police said.
“A court hearing on October 20th where joint custody was awarded to both Ms. Boudreau and her estranged husband appears to have been the precipitating event that led to her decision.”
