An 18-year-old Louisville woman has fatally shot herself as officers approached her home to serve an arrest warrant on Friday.
The unidentified woman was pronounced dead shortly after 3 p.m. from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Louisville Metro Police Department said.
“As they knocked and announced their presence, a single gunshot was heard from within the residence,” police said.
The LMPD also said that others were at the residence when the suicide occurred, but without providing further details.
The woman was accused of assault following an August incident with a Lyft driver. In a news conference, officials refuted the rumors that circulated on social media about the shooting being police-involved against a Black woman.
“Unfortunately sometimes misinformation gets out there and that’s exactly where we’re here tonight,” officials said.
