An Alaska dentist has been ordered to serve twelve years behind bars after being convicted of operating a patient while on a hoverboard back in 2017.
Seth Lookhart, 35, was facing several charges including Medicaid fraud, reckless endangerment, and unlawful dental acts.
Besides jail time, Lookhart will not be allowed to work in medicine for another 10 years.
Lookhart owned the Clear Creek Dental office where he worked since 2015. He stood accused of billing Medicaid for unnecessary IV sedation procedures and nearly killing some patients by “sedating them” for extended periods of time.
“While I do not doubt that I was able to render care and alleviate the pain to many people who were in dire need, I also know that I could have and should have maintained better discipline and focus while serving a patient base I come to love,” an apologizing Lookhart said in court.
Text messages and videos from the dentist’s own cellphone proved his guilt, Judge Michael Wolverton said.
“Perhaps most notable of all is the fact that this overwhelming amount of evidence was often supported, and often in excruciating detail, by Dr. Lookhart’s own texts, photos, and videos.”
