New York City investigators are looking for a man who had fatally shot a 62-year-old church employee who was nicknamed “the Mayor of his Neighborhood.”

Edward James was struck in the torso at the door of a Brooklyn church where he used to work. Authorities said that he likely was trying to shelter from the gunman when he was gunned down. The shooter was known to him.

“He was always helping others, he never had anything negative to say to anybody,” a resident said of Swayne, as James was known to locals. “He was a good person. He helped, he cleaned up the church. He did everything for the church. He was an icon of the church and even the community. Swayne would help everybody.”
