The family of a Bronx man was celebrating his 21 birthday and the arrival of his first daughter days ago. Now, they’re planning for his untimely funeral.
Nearly a week after he turned 21, Shaiquan Wilson was shot dead on Friday night as he walked into the home of his days-old daughter, Legacy, on the eve of her baby shower.
The victim’s mom, Cheryl Wilson, described how the new father was happy to welcome Legacy a day before his own birthday: “That was like a birthday gift to him.”
His sister said that he wasn’t the target of the shooter: “He got killed, but he wasn’t meant for him. He wasn’t even 21 for a week. He had a baby last Sunday, and his birthday was Monday. I don’t know what more I can say.”
The grieving mom said that Legacy’s name wasn’t specific at first but “it does now.”
