Fauci recommends wearing eye goggles for perfect protection prompting mocking comments

US news.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is now recommending Americans to wear goggles to be completely shielded of the coronavirus that’s infecting thousands of people across the country.

“If you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it,” Fauci said. “It might if you really want perfect protection of the mucosal surfaces. You have mucosa in the nose, mucosa in the mouth, but you also have mucosa in the eye. Theoretically, you should protect all mucosal surfaces. So if you have goggles or an eye shield you should use it.”

Fauci said that the idea wouldn’t easily be adopted by Americans who are still mocking face masks: “I can just see it now…everyone walking around with swimming goggles plus a mask. I wonder if ski goggles will catch on too,” one said on Twitter.
