As studies continue into the novel coronavirus, new findings come to light stressing the viciousness of SARS-CoV-2 and its ability to damage vital organs threatening human life.
A recent study shocked scientists as they discovered that the virus targets heart cells, damages them to propagate and alters their capacity of beating: “The virus can also quickly divide within the heart muscle cells and even more significant, the infected heart cells showed changes in their ability to beat after 72 hours of infection,” Dr. Arun Sharma said.
In the lab dish, infected heart-cells change their gene expression profile leading researchers to believe the viral infection can cause lasting heart conditions, even after recovery.
