US news, US news.

In an autopsy report released today, George Floyd, whose death gave rise to huge protests throughout the US, tested positive for the novel coronavirus in a new autopsy report released today.

The report said that George Floyd tested “positive for 2019-nCoV RNA,” using another term for the type of coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

According to the Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Baker, the type of test performed for the autopsy, called PCR, can show a positive result for weeks after the onset and resolution of clinical disease.

Baker added that the autopsy results can also reflect asymptomatic but persistent PCR positivity from the previous infection, which means that the novel coronavirus had no consequences on the death of Floyd and he was unlikely to have contaminated other people.
