Outrage after Mississippi prosecutor joked: ‘Hope coronavirus spreads in riots’

Jackson news, Mississippi news.

A Mississippi prosecutor is being condemned after she posted that she hoped riots get infected with the coronavirus during a Facebook discussion that she had since deleted.

Someone had wondered if the deadly bug was spreading among protesters or just in restaurants and bars to which Pamela Hancock replied: “We can only hope the deadly strain spreads in riots.”

Hancock, criticized by press and authorities, called her post a joke: “I don’t hold any ill will towards anyone or any group.”

Jackson officials were annoyed by Hancock’s joke because it should never come from an elected person and especially at this time: “You’d hope in moments like this that people throughout the law enforcement community and certainly prosecutors would be reflective about these issues.”
