Summer & Coronavirus: Can air conditioning help spread bug?

US news.

Temperatures are getting higher and more people are rushing to their air-conditioners to be spared the heat of the season, but what about coronavirus? Can it be spread by ACs?

At homes and public places, air conditioners are used everywhere and especially during summer. People have all the right to wonder if the AC helps spread the virus in a room due to the ventilation process or it’s safe to put on.

Droplets are the main way for contamination among people in the same confined space. In Wuhan, one COVID-19 patient infected several other restaurant attendees even though they sat apart. Researchers did however notice what may be a contributing factor: Air conditioning was activated at the time.

Professor William Schaffner warns that ACs can recirculate contaminate droplets favoring virus transmission.
