Nearly 4 million Americans are set to receive their stimulus money in white, plain envelopes with a prepaid debit card inside, the IRS announced in a statement.
The envelopes sent from “Money Network Cardholder Services” have been missed from many people who didn’t pay attention as they discarded the unwanted mail: “This week, Treasury and the IRS are starting to send nearly 4 million Economic Impact Payments by prepaid debit card instead of by paper check. Brilliantly, the envelope doesn’t indicate anything of the kind, so many people have been throwing them away,” a Twitter user said.
The debit card will have the same funds previously distributed in the form of checks or deposits.
