Dr. Fauci says a second wave is not inevitable

US news, US news.

The nation's top infectious disease physician, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said America can stop the second wave of COVID-19 if it reopens correctly.

Fauci said that it is necessary to follow clear and effective testing, tracing, and isolation measures to prevent a second wave of infections.

The health expert added that the country does not have to allow a second wave, especially in the fall. "It could happen, but it is not inevitable," Fauci said.

Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that regions of the US that are still reporting an increase in coronavirus cases need to be controlled and watched carefully.

Dr. Anthony said that if reopening states see no negative effect during the first week of the restart, they shouldn't be overconfident.

Dr. Fauci said: “I think we need to…reserve judgment right now to see what the situation would be. Hopefully, we will get that diminution [in new cases.] If we don’t…I would have significant reservations.”
