US news, US news.

In St. Louis, Washington University said it will adopt a phased approach to bring students and faculty back to campus, with a staggering calender expected to start the fall and spring semesters several weeks apart.

According to a letter sent Wednesday to the university community from Chancellor Andrew D. Martin, the school will allow extra time to continue preparing for a majority of students to be back on campus. The school is planning to teach courses in the classroom for this fall semester.

The university's Brown School and Law School will hold the first day of classes on August 24. Both schools will start their spring semester on January 19.

Other universities such as Arts & Sciences, McKelvey Engineering, Olin Business School, Sam Fox School, and University College will start three weeks later on September 14, and the spring semester for those schools will start on January 25.

Some courses, especially those held in a large lecture hall, will be held online or through a hybrid format with some students in the classroom and others participating from their home.

Universities said they will provide further details on their plans for the fall semester, no later than July 31, and added that their announcements may be subject to change.
