Trump considering weekly bonuses to encourage Americans to resume work

As the Trump administration is working to accomplish a successful, complete reopening of all states, the White House economic officials announced on Tuesday that weekly bonuses are being considered to help push Americans to work again.

“I’m hearing from a lot of small business employers in Ohio who are ready to go that it’s been very difficult for them to get workers to come back when they can make more, sometimes substantially more on unemployment insurance,” Sen. Rob Portman said.

Portman suggests Americans would keep $450 out of the $600 a week they receive in unemployment benefits as a “bonus” for resuming work but only until the end of July.

“Frankly it’s a major disincentive to go back to work and we don’t want that,” WH adviser Larry Kudlow said. “We want people to go back to work.”
