Scores of Americans across the United States are headed outdoors for the Memorial Day weekend after spending weeks in lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic ignoring that the novel virus is still among them.

In Michigan, an entire island has been shut down due to overcrowded beaches. The same measures have been taken in Florida and California coasts that welcomed thousands of visitors. Besides beaches, parks and restaurants were also overcrowded with attendees.

“We made a tough decision to close the park this weekend,” Independence Lake County Park Manager Julie Sigda said. “The health and safety of our patrons is our top priority and with the upcoming beautiful weather, we anticipate the draw of large crowds.”
