Researchers from the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center have found that a drug called prazosin can save many coronavirus patients’ lives by preventing an overreaction of the immunity system that leads to death.

The drug that costs $25 a month has been used for the last twenty years to treat other health issues such as blood pressure. Now, scientists say that it can also prevent cytokine storm syndrome that can lead to fatal respiratory distress in many coronavirus cases.

“Preliminary results from a recent clinical study revealed that for hospitalized patients diagnosed with pneumonia or acute respiratory distress, the likelihood of requiring mechanical ventilation and dying was significantly lower if patients were taking a1-AR antagonists during the year preceding hospitalization.”
