A retired New York City Police sergeant was discovered lifeless on the street only an hour after he discharged himself from a local hospital due to lack of treatment.

Yon Chang, 56, suspected he had the coronavirus and went to a hospital to seek medical help after developing symptoms. Shortly later, he discharged himself from the medical facility, frustrated with the way he was treated.

Chang was found dead on the Upper East Side near the intersection of Park Avenue and East 77th Street on Monday morning, nearly an hour after the incident. His COVID-19 infection was not confirmed and the involved hospital was not named.

Chang’s cause of death remains under investigation, police said.
