Lee County news, Mississippi news.

The corpse found floating in a Mississippi lake on Monday belonged to a former Mississippi State football player who went missing since January 20.

On Wednesday, the medical examiner identified the corpse by the fingerprints as Philemon Depaul Jones, 27-year-old, three days after authorities found him floating face-down almost 20 feet offshore in a private watershed lake.

The athlete who was a defensive lineman for the Bulldogs from 2011 to 2014 suffered medical issues that have not been disclosed. His sister grew worried because he disappeared without taking his vehicle, wallet or even cell-phone that day.

The Tupelo native’s cause of death has not yet released but officials are not suspecting foul play in his death.
