A man took his own life after jumping from the Vessel sculpture in Hudson Yards, police and witnesses said.
The 19-year-old victim leaped to his death Saturday at around 6 p.m. as dozens of tourists and visitors watched.
The incident is considered as the first suicide at the Manhattan landmark since it opened last March. One witness described people screaming in horror when the man fell from above.
Marita Salkowski, 50, was at the scene when the tragedy occurred. She recalls a man running to the victim, taking off a jacket and “putting it right over the victim’s face.”
"Some people had tears in their eyes. My daughter and I went over to the side and said a prayer for him," she added.
Police asked everyone to leave the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
