Jackson news, Michigan news.

A Michigan inmate has plunged 40 feet to his death while being incarcerated for a robbery he committed in order to return to jail after his release in 2012.

59-year-old Mark Wilson took his own life on Wednesday at Egeler Reception & Guidance Center where he was detained as he awaited his prison assignment following his December conviction of armed robbery. He was expected to serve 25 years behind bars.

The robbery unfolded last summer when Wilson left a note to police officers claiming he was committing the crime to return to jail. He waited in a restroom until responding officers arrived and did not hurt the employees.

"Somewhere along the road, your honor, I just seemed to have lost the ability to function normally with society," he told a judge.
