According to reports, a 21-year-old man was held into custody after he allegedly killed his mother using a baseball-bat on March 24.
On Monday, Thomas J. Summerwill turned himself into police. He faces second-degree murder charges in connection to the killing of 53-year-old Mary Summerwill inside her house in Campton Hills.
The event was described by the suspect's lawyer, Liam Dixon as a "horrible accident," adding that Summerwill targeted his mother thinking she was an intruder.
Officers responded to an emergency call from a family relative reporting the injured woman in a house located on the 40W600 block of Willowbrook around 7 a.m.
The victim was rushed to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital where she died.
