3 dead, 3 injured after suspected arson fire at Chicago apartment

Three people are dead and three others hurt after an extra-alarm fire at a Chicago apartment early Thursday, officials said.

The extra-alarm blaze was deemed suspicious and is being investigated as criminal arson as authorities continue looking for possible additional victims.

The Chicago Fire Department said the search will resume Friday, as at least one person remains unaccounted for.

The fire erupted on the third-floor apartment on Chicago’s West Side just after 1:50 a.m.

  • Five people were pulled out from the burning apartment through the windows. The blaze was contained by 3:47 a.m.

    “We had several victims, and companies went to work right away,” 2nd District Chief Robert Jurewicz said.

    “They pulled five people out of the window.”

    Four adults and two children were taken to area hospitals, where three of them later died.

    The deceased were a 5-year-old boy, a 32-year-old woman, and a 76-year-old man.
