Suspect dead after shooting 2 officers at Texas Tech campus

A suspect accused of shooting two officers at the Texas Tech campus early Tuesday is dead after a confrontation with police.

Officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the campus at around 12:45 a.m. when the shooting unfolded.

  • As officers approached the vehicle that was parked in an unsuitable area, a suspect making “some furtive gestures around the vehicle” grabbed a gun and opened fire.

    The officers returned fire, fatally hitting the man. Two Texas Tech police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are listed in stable condition.

    The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
