A vehicle lost control and struck a concrete barrier on the Gulf Freeway, killing a child and wounding several others, on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash shut down I-45 southbound lanes for hours after the Chevy sedan slammed into the barrier near the NASA Parkway exit killing a child occupant.

Two Life Flight helicopters were dispatched to the scene. Several people were injured in the incident, but their condition was not immediately clear.
The cause of the driver losing control of the vehicle remains unclear.
