5 killed in wrong-way collision along Arizona highway

A young family of three was among five victims of a deadly wrong-way crash that occurred in Kingman early Saturday.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a suspected drunken driver was traveling the wrong way on U.S. 93 when he crashed his Jeep into a Hyundai station wagon at around 2 a.m.

The fiery crash claimed the lives of everyone involved: A young couple and their child in the Hyundai and the drunken driver and a passenger in the Jeep.

  • Friend Ryan Yonts identified the couple as Jason Ortiz and his wife, Madeleine, and their young daughter, Jennilee.

    “[Jason] was a really nice guy. He was just super and a hard worker,” Yonts said.

    The identities of the other victims were not immediately released.
