A New Hampshire woman was killed when an Amtrak train struck her while she was saving a dog from the tracks, officials said.
42-year-old Alicia Leonardi was with her ex-boyfriend, walking his dog Jackson by the train tracks near Newfields Road in Exeter at around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
“She loved that dog. That dog was everything to her,” Cathleen Collis, the victim’s mom, said.
The pair was walking when the dog got startled by the train’s horn and ran onto the tracks.
Leonardi and her ex-boyfriend chased after the dog, and all three were struck by the train. The man survived the ordeal with minor injuries.
“She’s a very happy, smiley, bubbly girl, and I’m going to miss her very much,” Collis said of her late daughter.
