Missouri mother walks away from DWI crash, leaving behind severely wounded children

A Missouri woman was charged after she allegedly walked away from the scene of a DWI crash that left her young children bleeding in her car.

Courtney R. Brown, 27, was reportedly impaired while driving eastbound on Interstate 270 with her two unrestrained children in the passenger seat.

The mother stopped in the middle of the road, causing a multi-car crash. An officer spotted her walking away from the wreck and ordered her to return.

  • Brown was ultimately arrested about a mile from the scene. She reportedly had a “relaxed demeanor, slow, deliberate movements, watery and bloodshot eyes, and confused speech.”

    Her children, ages 3 and 8, were found lying unconscious and bleeding across the center console. They are currently intubated at St. Louis Hospital.

    Authorities said that Brown had cannabis and amphetamines in her system. She was charged with DWI with serious injury, leaving the scene of an accident, and child welfare endangerment.
