A Missouri boy with a promising future as a football player is dead after he accidentally shot himself while playing with guns last week.
11-year-old Marshaun Futrell Jr. was playing with unsecured guns he brought from his home on May 5 when one discharged and hit him.
A 13-year-old witness said the victim had two firearms in his backpack; police said the boy’s father had 12 loaded guns in the home.
Marshaun A. Futrell Sr. was charged with first-degree child endangerment resulting in death, a class A felony, and two additional counts of first-degree child endangerment.
The victim’s uncle said he was still in shock, describing the boy as an incredible football player and one of the top running backs in the country.
“When he would walk in the room, his smile, he was very quiet and humble, but his smile brightened up the room. He was a hard worker. He loved his family,” he said.
