An outage disrupted flight communications at Newark Liberty International Airport early Friday morning.
It happened at 3:55 a.m. and lasted about 90 seconds, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Air traffic controllers warned planes that their screens went black as the outage prevented them from getting in touch.
The FAA admitted there was a “telecommunications outage that impacted communications and radar display at Philadelphia TRACON Area C.”
A similar outage happened at Newark, causing ATC computer screens to go dark for nearly 60 to 90 seconds.
The incident sent multiple controllers on medical leave due to the traumatic impact of the event.
