A Georgia woman is accused of leaving her 5-year-old brother to struggle and nearly drown in a pool last month.
The boy was found unresponsive after the April 13 incident at the Hamilton Grove Pool. He was revived and rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
Police said the boy’s sister, 24-year-old Mikayla Jimya Dixon, claimed she was not at the scene when the incident unfolded.
Surveillance footage showed her sitting with friends in front of the pool as her brother swam unattended.
Detectives said the boy could be seen drowning for one to one-and-a-half minutes before Dixon noticed and tried to pull him out.
Dixon was charged with first-degree felony cruelty to children, abandonment of a dependent child, and false statements or writing to conceal facts.
