Three people were killed and two were hurt in a suspected gang-related shooting in Minneapolis late Tuesday, officials said.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the shooting happened in an alleyway near the intersection of Bloomington Avenue and East 25th Street shortly before midnight.
ShotSpotter alerts sent officers to the scene, where they found two men and a woman dead. A man and a woman were seriously injured, with the man being in “grave” condition.
“Tonight, our city is grieving. After a relative period of peace the likes of which have not been seen in at least five years, that peace has been shattered,” O’Hara said.
The Police Chief added that about an hour after the shooting, “several rounds” were fired five blocks from the scene, but no one was injured except for a person who showed up at a local hospital with a minor gunshot wound.
“I just want to reiterate now more than ever we need our entire community to stand up and not accept this level of violence,” O’Hara said.
