Three suspects were arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed a 5-year-old girl’s life and critically hurt her twin sister and another person.
Sheriff Hobert Lewis said “several thugs began shooting at each other” at around 5:30 p.m. Friday near The Belle Meade Apartments on Fleetwood Drive.
Three young victims were caught in gunfire: a 5-year-old girl who was fatally struck, her twin, who was listed in critical condition, and an 18-year-old who is expected to survive.
“Obviously, these guys don’t care who they shoot at or what they shoot,” Lewis said.
On Saturday, police arrested three suspects and said the shooting was “gang-related.”
Shawnteza La Shay Sherman, 31, and a male juvenile were charged with murder and attempted murder, among other counts.
A 16-year-old was charged with a weapon-related offense for possessing a firearm while under 18.
“We will continue our pursuit until everyone involved in this senseless crime is behind bars,” police said.
