A woman and her 1-year-old daughter are dead after she suffered a medical emergency while driving and crashed into a Houston river on Friday.
Crystal Njepu was behind the wheel of her 2020 Kia with three children when she suffered a medical emergency at around 4:30 p.m.
The car left the road and accelerated through a grassy area before plunging into the San Jacinto River.
A witness spotted two kids, ages 5 and 7, struggling inside the SUV as it took on water and jumped to save them.
The witness rescued the two kids and pulled them out of the river. They were rushed to a local hospital and are expected to be OK.
Authorities said the children’s mother drowned along with a 1-year-old girl found strapped in a car seat.
The surviving children were placed in the custody of family members.
