The South Memphis community is mourning the deaths of two students who were fatally shot near a high school on Thursday.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools identified the victims of the shooting near Booker T. Washington as two students of the school.
“We extend our deepest condolences to their families, loved ones, and the entire BTW community,” the MSCS said.
“Violence has no place in our communities or our hearts. We must stand together to protect our children and create a future where they feel safe, valued, and supported.”
The two students were shot dead just steps away from the school. On Friday, grieving classmates said they considered the pair as family.
“Everybody misses them now that they’re gone,” one said, adding that he fears “knowing that we won’t live that long because of things like this.”
Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
