Texas deputy dies after debris from passing commercial vehicle struck him during traffic stop

A Dawson County Sheriff’s deputy died Thursday after a tragic accident involving debris from a passing vehicle, the department said.

Deputy Jessie Perez was conducting a traffic stop near W. US 180 and N Avenue V in Lamesa when debris from a passing commercial vehicle hit him.

The 42-year-old deputy succumbed to his injuries at 1:44 p.m. at Lamesa Medical Arts Hospital.
